The first unofficial voices about an olympic bid for Turin (Piemonte Region, northwest of Italy), in order to host the "Winter Games" of the 2006, began circulating during the World Alpine Ski Championships of February 1997 in Sestriere (famous ski resort founded by the Agnelli family).
The idea of Nolympics! was born in that precise moment, on the worry of new economical and environmental negative impacts: further on you'll learn about past Susa Valley and Turin great events failures.

Well, in those 1997 months the media and political propagandas speak about the "2006 games" as an occasion to free Turin from the car industry and from Fiat but, to the exact contrary, a public-private Association named "Torino 2006" is created and its Bid Committee has in the main positions.. people directly working for the Turinese Group. 
Moreover, Fiat and other firms of the holding (La Stampa, Juventus) will be themselves important sponsors of the Bid.
Bidders say if they win, well they'll organize "green games" (lough) and so a couple of environmental renegades are put in the Bid Committee, too. 

First months of 1998: "Torino 2006" publishes its first dossier and plans make us catch a glimpse of concrete-transformed valleys. 

Piemonte-Fiat 2006 (thus defined by Mr.Galan, president of the Veneto Region - please see "La  Repubblica" 28 January 1998 -) wins the national selection of the National Olympic Committee (CONI) beating Venice, and prepares itself for this absurd world-wide contest between olympic cities aspirants without ever consulting the local population. Main competitor: Sion, in Switzerland.

Local environmental NGO's feel the first dangers: strongly opposed against Torino 2006 is Mountain Wilderness, while regional Pro Natura, Italia Nostra, WWF and Legambiente begin with a bit of precaution to show their perplexities, and slowly move to a highlynegative judgment: unfortunately, the darkening regime is now on charge and virtually nothing will leak on newspapers and in television.

Powerful lobbies put in motion the institutions, first of all the Italian Government, which promises to pay 600 us$ billions should Turin win. 
At local level, in the City, Province and Regional parliaments hundreds of counsellors and executives put up a flood of pro-Turin 2006 votings.. based on heavily culpable ignorance: almost nobody of them knows what the words curling, biathlon, nordic combined, short track meant....shame shame shame.

In the same time they finance (at the very end it will beat least 6 us$ millions) the Bid Committee, making this public money end - among other things - in intercontinental travels of the bidders, golden hospitalities for the IOC members and their companions in Turin, a great dinner at hyperfamous "Il Cambio" restaurant, a fable ceremony at the "Palazzina di Stupinigi" with a huge number of armed policemen to stop "undesired" visitors... 
Everything we say is documented.

N.2 dossier (1998) to the IOC is that of the not required "Green Card", an  appendix full of falsities and incredibly fake images. 
Who, as we did,  tries to put out an opposed voice has to face a number of torts: banners torn out of hand, limitation and blocking of manifestation freedoms, movement limitations,  denial of access to public and administrative financial books, denial of participation in public meetings and reunions. 

It's now November 1998 and the planetary IOC corruption bursts: we've read at least 1000 articles about misconducts of the International Olympic Committee members; There are inquiries in the United States (FBI) and outside.
To denounce the scandal and to put eveybody in the troubles: Marc Hodler, Swiss IOC old member . 
The IOC Exec. decides to take a "renovation" road and launches IOC 2000 by recruiting famous personages but maybe not so neutral to the 2006 fight like the two friends Henry Kissinger and Giovanni Agnelli (that of Fiat). 

February 1999: based on a local push (partly coming from us), the "Coordinamento Controlimpiadi Torino 2006" (Againstolympics Coordination) is founded, linking together all the greatest national  enviromentalist NGO's, people from the cultural, university, political world, european deputies, national deputies, a former european and italian minister, local mayors, many groups and common people; little after, the Italian Environment Minister Mr.Edo Ronchi abandons the Honour Committee of Torino 2006 clearly showing that national community fully rejects the olympic plans: a great defeat to Mrs. Christillin and Giugiaro. 

But unfortunately Nature has no weight in the olympic business and unfortunately our famous  Barrister is paying and spending a lot......so the months pass by and, when it's june 1999 in Seoul (Korea), far from indiscreet eyes, partly for a revenge towards Mr. Hodler who spoke... (remember he is from Switzerland as Sion, Turin's main rival).. .and partly for something God only knows what...well the old IOC members of the never changed IOC award against every prediction the 2006  Winter Olympic Games to our city. 

This means that a ridicolous number - 53 - of foreigners is making us bear 7 years of great expenditures and ugly natural destructions...53 votes coming from private members of a foreign non-profit private association .... will rule above the Italian State, the Piemonte Region, the Turin Province and tens of cities, for an event on which million of citizens never have been consulted nor have had the chance to expresse their concerns about; an event of which not a single financial document or plan has ever been produced to show economical convenience guarantees.
It seems a bad bad fable but it is not., and we want to say this:

          VOTING PROCESS OF SEOUL RESULT..UNCORRECT, ITALIAN GOVERNEMENT'LL
          IMMEDIATELY HAVE TO DECLARE VOID THE IOC-TURIN CITY CONTRACT.
